Understanding Human Nature

Understanding Human Nature

Understanding Human Nature

I have always been fascinated by the way people perceive each other. Given the myriad of interactions we have daily, it's natural to seek ways to understand and improve these relationships, ultimately leading to a happier and more fulfilling life.

To embark on this journey of understanding human nature, we must start somewhere and build a structured approach. Due to the vast diversity of humans, this task is complex. Therefore, categorizing people in a way that helps us construct a systematic understanding is essential.

From my lifelong observations, I have found the following categorization to be effective:

Child

A child is in a state where they cannot make decisions independently. They have not yet developed the faculty for self-determination and cannot be held accountable for their actions. Left on their own, they would struggle to survive as they are entirely dependent on those around them.

Adolescence

In this stage, individuals begin to recognize their independence and freedom of choice. However, they often lack awareness of the crucial fact that with independence comes responsibility. Adolescents still require guidance and are in the experimental phase of life. They start to understand that to be a part of society, they must accept full responsibility for their actions.

Adult

An adult is fully conscious of their responsibility for themselves and the outcomes of their actions, both mentally and physically. Adults understand that they are the architects of their past, present, and future due to the laws of cause and effect. Every action, whether mental, physical, or even metaphysical, has its consequences, which ripple out like waves in a pond, continuing for a long time.

Realizing the above stages highlights a surprising fact: many grown-ups have not moved beyond the childhood or adolescence states. This realization is mind-boggling but true.

I always appreciate your comments. Please feel free to share your thoughts.

Thank you.
