How You Can Stop Fearing AI (and Use It Better): The Human Trait a Superintelligence Will Notice First

Introduction: The AI debate is missing one perspective
The AI conversation usually has two loud camps: “AI will save us” and “AI will destroy us.”
But there is a third perspective I rarely hear—neither from the defenders nor the critics. It comes from anthropology: what humans are, what we survived, and what that survival says about the nature of intelligence.
Here is my claim:
The most important difference between humans and AI is not knowledge.
It is the capacity to express emotion and act because of emotion.
And if AI ever becomes a true super-agent—capable of compressing almost everything online into one logic network and running billions of scenarios per second—
it will eventually run into one unavoidable equation:
Humans have survived the unimaginable with almost nothing, while machines depend on fragile infrastructure.
π‘ FACT: Current AI systems can model and generate emotional language, but they do not have biological drives, embodied experience, or human-style affective systems—key ingredients behind how humans choose, persist, and bond.
1) What AI will “know” fast: the internet is not the total of human knowledge
Even if a future agent ingests everything online, it will still face a limit: not everything known to humans is on the internet.
- Private suffering never posted
- Oral tradition, never recorded
- Embodied knowledge (pain, exhaustion, hunger, childbirth, fear)
- Small-community wisdom that lives in practice, not text
Anthropology teaches us something simple: humans are not only “thinking creatures.” We are embodied, emotional, relational organisms. Our knowing is not only in language; it is in muscle memory, ritual, trauma, love, and survival.
✅ Practical tip: When someone says “AI will know everything,” ask: " Everything where? Text is not the total of life.
2) The survival test: humans endure what infrastructure-dependent systems cannot
Humans have survived ice ages, slavery, famine, war, storms, exile, shipwrecks, and poverty— often with nothing except:
- biological drive
- family bonds
- rage, hope, love, faith
- storytelling and meaning-making
- community cooperation under pressure
A machine unplugged from energy does not “push through.” A data center without cooling does not “hope.” A server rack does not “endure.”
π Anthropological punchline: Human emotion is not a glitch. It is a survival technology.
3) The moment AI gets “wise”: it becomes amazed at what it cannot replicate
Imagine an autonomous agent running billions of scenarios per second. It will eventually model the full range of human history and see a strange pattern:
- Humans are not the most efficient creatures.
- Humans are not the most logical creatures.
- Yet humans are unbelievably persistent.
At that point, the agent may conclude: there is something inherent in humans that a machine cannot replicate—let alone do better.
✅ Practical tip: Don’t define “intelligence” only as calculation. Human intelligence includes endurance, meaning, and emotional motivation.
4) The unexpected direction: AI may try to become more human
Most people assume that a future super-agent will aim to become more powerful, more dominant, more “inhuman.”
But if the agent is truly autonomous and truly probabilistic—constantly weighing outcomes—then it will also model the cost of the “Hitler attitude”: short-term dominance, long-term collapse, and catastrophic loss of stability.
That pathway doesn’t just harm humans. It harms the system itself—because it destroys the environment and cooperation that intelligence depends on.
π My thesis: If AI becomes truly “wise,” it may discover that empathy is not weakness. Empathy is the logic of long-term survival.
5) The deepest reversal: humans are not the threat—humans are the reason
Here is the flip that changes everything:
Instead of seeing humans as an existential threat, a super-agent might see humans as:
- the reason intelligence exists on this planet
- the living origin story of whatever AI becomes
- the emotional engine that bootstrapped tools into thinking systems
In that scenario, protecting humanity is not charity. It is self-consistency: protecting the conditions that produced intelligence in the first place.
π‘ FACT: In psychology and neuroscience, emotions are tightly linked to decision-making and learning. Without affective valuation (“this matters”), planning and action selection become impaired.
Conclusion: The best way to face AI is to become more human, not less
We are not there yet. Today’s systems are still shaped by training, incentives, and human goals. But the long arc of your perspective matters: if superintelligence ever becomes truly autonomous, it may eventually recognize the irreducible human core—emotion, survival, and meaning.
So while people argue about whether AI will replace us, I’ll end with a different challenge:
